Fans of Folklore – Legends Part 1
We love folklore at Brass Castle, with all its legendary characters and creatures. In our Bigger Picture sequence of beers we explored some of the legends and myths of our home county, but now we’re going global. In the first of our new sequence of ‘Legends’ beers, artist Claudia Bowler (who supported our Bigger Picture project) has created the Green Man image to wrap around a sumptuous dry-hopped Belgian-style Tripel.
The Green Man image recurs throughout British folklore. Recently, it has come to be associated with ecological awareness. King Charles’ coronation invitation featured a design incorporating the Green Man. Similar characters and legends occur across the world. Like the vampire, many different cultures have their own versions of a Green Man – such as the Papa Bois legend of various Caribbean communities. Our Green Man Tripel therefore marks the moment that we turn our focus to world folklore. To mark that transition, upcoming artwork in the series will be created by the fabulous Gemma Hanson (responsible for the beautiful imagery associated with our Kitsch, Beowulf and Jack An’ T’ Beanstalk beers).
So get ready for another folklore-inspired ride, and some appropriately innovative beers! We’re calling it our ‘Legends’ series. It will include creatures like the Popobawa, Fachan and Moko Jumbie. We would also be glad of your help along the way – so please grab yourself (and/or your bestie) a Green Man and drop us a line (info@brasscastlebrewery.co.uk) with a folklore character and beer-type combination idea, that we could feature in the series. If we like your idea, we’ll send you a wedge of the finished beer.
